The Figure 1 shows RMC's options of a grid layer. These options are summarized in the Table 1.

Figure 1. Grid tab.

Show PropertiesSet properties of the selected layer, it describes in detail below
Show LabelsShow labels by L or I, J indices of the grid. it describes in detail below
Zoom to LayerZoom the view to the selected layer
Grid IndexingShow different options for indices of the grid

OptionDescription
NoneOnly the grid is displayed
Orthogonal Deviation

Show the orthogonal deviation of the grid. it is displayed by color ramp. (Figure 4)

Cell Aspect RatioShow the cell aspect ratio of the grid. it is displayed by color ramp. (Figure 5)
Cell AreaShow the area of the grid cells. it is displayed by color ramp. (Figure 6)
Cell DXShow the dimension DX of the grid cells. it is displayed by color ramp. (Figure 7)
Cell DYShow the dimension DY of the grid cells. it is displayed by color ramp. (Figure 8)

Show Labels

Table 3. Show Labels for grid layer.

OptionDescription
NoneOnly the grid is displayed
Cell L IndexShow the L index number of the grid cells, each cell has only a L index. (Figure 9)
Cell I,J IndicesShow the I and J indices number of the grid cells, each cell has a pair of I and J indices. (Figure 10). This option sometimes is helpful when we create the next grid to merge with the previous grid as we want to know the number of cells along a segment of the previous grid.
Node I,J IndicesShow the I and J indices number of the grid nodes, each grid node has a pair of I and J indices. (Figure 11)

Grid Indexing

When a grid is generated each cell or node has an I and J coordinate. Sometimes these are not in the direction that the user requires. The Grid Indexing tool allows the user to reverse the I and J coordinates either separately, or at the same time.

To display the I, J labels of the grid, select the grid layer in the Layer Control then RMC. Select Show Labels (e.g Cell IJ Indices) as shown in Figure 10

Grid Indexing includes options that are summarized in Table 4:

Table 4. Grid Indexing

OptionDescription
Transpose I - J IndicesReverses both the I and J indices of the selected grid at the same time.
Flip I IndicesReverses only the I indices of the selected grid.
Flip J IndicesReverses only the I indices of the selected grid.
Rotate Indices ClockwiseOrders the indices in a clockwise direction.
Rotate Indices Counter-ClockwiseIt is the opposite of the Rotate Indices Clockwise.

Export To

The Export To option allows saving the grid to a file with different file formats as shown in Figure 12. These options are summarized in Table 5. The function of these options is similar to the Export button described in Main toolbar buttons.

Figure 12. Export grid layer options.

Table 5. Export Grid to a file.

OptionDescription
Export To Grid+Export the selected grid layer to the native grid file of Grid+ (*.cvl)
Export To RGF GridExport the selected grid layer to the native grid file of the Delft3D (*.grd)
Export To EFDC GridExport the selected grid layer to the EFDC input file (including corners.inp, dxdy.inp, lxly.inp), these files can open with EEMS.
Export To ShapefileExport the selected grid layer to the shapefile which can open with ArcGIS, QGIS, Global Mapper, etc.
Export To KMLExport the selected grid layer to the KML file which can open with Google Earth, Global Mapper, etc.
Export To Outline

Export outline of the selected grid layer to a text file (*.p2d).
