Creating a grid is a straightforward process. The important principle is that for each grid, four splines are needed that intersect in four places. Follow these steps to create a simple grid:
- From the Splines menu, select Draw a New Spline or click on the Add a new spline button from the main menu.
- LMC to start drawing a spline, and RMC to end drawing the spline. Draw a second spline close to parallel to the first spline.
- Next draw to two more splines along each end of the domain. These two spline must intersect the previous two splines (Figure 1)
- RMC on the Splines layer in the Layer Control, then select the Create Grid option or click on the Create Grid from Splines button from the main menu, as shown in Figure 2
- Create Grid from Splines form will pop up as shown in Figure 3. From this form, the number of grid cells needs to be defined by entering a number of cell in I and J directions (default values are 4). The values input for Growth Factor will define the spacing distance for nodes of the grid, with default values (zero), nodes are distributed evenly in I and J directions. Figure 4 shows an example for the grid generated.

Tip
When drawing splines to generate a grid, splines should not be too long, and the length of the splines should be less than approximately five times the width of splines.
