The feature of Create a rectangular grid is used to generate a structured grid with two dimensions. Figure 1 highlights the Create a rectangular grid button in the main toolbar.

Figure 1. Create a rectangular grid.

Once click that button, the Rectangular Grid form will pop up as shown in Figure 2.

  • Min. Cell Size (m): the dimension of the grid cell in meters along the I and J direction
  • Growth Factors: the expansion of the cell dimension in the I or J direction
  • Number of Cells: the number of cells to generate a new grid
  • UTM Zone: this is the Universal Transverse Mercator (UTM) zone number, from 1 to 60. After entering the location of the focal point, the UTM zone can be updated automatically
  • Location of Focal Point: the longitude and latitude in degrees of the focal point in geographic coordinate system
  • Rotation(deg.) : the angle in degrees to rotate the grid

Figure 3 presents the generated rectangular grid generated. Selecting the grid layer in the layer control and holding the focal point is to move the grid cell. The corner point is used to rotate the grid. The side point is used to extend or narrow the grid cell along the side. Figure 4 shows the grid cell after extending, cells are added and have the same size as the previous cells.
